You’ve probably seen black and white or sepia-toned old photographs on pieces of silver or copper. Those are called daguerreotypes, and a team at the University of Rochester is leading groundbreaking research into this medium. We learn about the science and how daguerreotypes tell a story about our cultural history. Our guests:

  • Nick Bigelow, professor of physics and optics, University of Rochester
  • Ralph Wiegandt, research conservator and NSF researcher, George Eastman Museum
  • Jacob Lewis, visiting assistant professor of art history, University of Rochester
  • Lori Birrell, historical manuscripts librarian, University of Rochester River Campus Libraries
