Comedian Larry Wilmore referred to President Obama as "my n--ga" during the White House correspondents dinner, and it has sparked a debate within the black community. Some argue it was inappropriate and sets a poor example for a community that has tried to banish the racial epithet. Others take a cue from Wilmore that the ending of the word -- with an "a" instead of an "er" -- changes the meaning from something hateful to something brotherly, defusing it.
Our panel discusses the variations of the word, their meanings, and more. Our guests:
- Chris Thompson, activist, humorist, engineer
- Tianna Manon, editor-in-chief of Open Mic Rochester Magazine
- Kenny Jean, founder and publisher of Our Voice-The Magazine
